Ah, New York Fashion Week. We love it as much for the glimpse of front-row celebs as we do the covetable clothing draped on runway models. But we also keep an eye out for ways to update our make-up look. Fresh, edgy, or bold, there’s always something inspiring on the runways. If you’re in the mood to try something new with your makeup, try one of these trends that made a splash during Fashion Week:
Electric red lipstick was spotted on a several runways including Jason Wu and Creatures of the Wind, inspired by New York street style. Glossy was a more popular choice than matte, and as for the shade, the redder the better of course.
Metallic Cat Eye
Move over, jet-black cat eyeliner. Metallic eyeshadow applied along the top and bottom lash lines on models for Nicholas K were a huge hit. Shades from ethereal silver to superhero titanium provided a fun and unexpected edge.
Lower Lash Shadow
Makeup in the Zimmerman show stood out with a modern and feminine twist on the smoky eye. The use of dark shadow on the lower lash line and metallic shadow on the inner corners, created a compelling contrast.
No Makeup Makeup
Fresh faces stormed the runways with a youthful, minimalist vibe—although “no makeup” isn’t meant to be taken literally. At Alexander Wang, models sported light foundation and bleached eyebrows, while Jason Wu chose the same look with one crucial twist: a single highlighted statement feature like orange lips or dewy eyes.
Clashing eyeshadow colors were spotted at Jill Stuart and Dion Lee, with violet/soft orange and fuchsia/tangerine, respectively. Christian Siriano offered a more subtle approach with a swipe of aqua lining models’ lids. Protip: to make the most out of contrast, consult a color wheel and pick colors on opposite ends.
Bold eyebrows aren’t new, but at NY Fashion Week we saw two options for making them pop. Option one: combine bold brows with a bare face, light contouring, and a strong red lip. Option two: strong brows paired with a muted lip. Both looks are appropriate for any event and work beautifully with a range of skin tones and features. And while a few shows displayed the recurring trend of bushy brows, thick yet manicured overruled them by far.
Bare Elegance Brows
Whether you want to take advantage of the bold brow trend, or you’d rather opt for a more classic look, come in to the Brow Bar at Bare Elegance. Even if you’re not exactly sure what you want to do with your brows, our customized “Bare Elegance Brow” style is created to fit your face shape and play on the natural shape of your own eyebrow. Your face is unique—your eyebrows should be, too!
And hey, don’t forget your lips!
Bright, nude, matte, or glossy, you want your lipstick to be the star of the show, not your fuzzy upper lip. If you’re in need of a lip wax, we’ve got you covered, there, too.
